Local Outreach

The Community Food Pantry in Grand Island is extremely short of food for needy families right now. If you have food to donate, bring it anytime to the collection box in the east entryway.

Social Ministry Donations

Members of Trinity have been very generous in supplying things for those in need – food, furniture, clothing, gift certificates and cash donations. Following are some suggestions for clothing donations.

1) The Crisis Center accepts clothing donations for women and children who are staying in the Crisis Center shelters. They also accept donations of household goods including dishes, towels, linens, and bedding items for women and children who are moving into new housing. The Crisis Center office is located at 2251 N. Webb Road.

2) Hope Harbor homeless shelter operates a “free” thrift store in their basement for clients to select clothing items. Most of those who stay at the shelter are women and children. The shelter is located at 610 W. Division Street.

3) Through Trinity, we share some clothing with needy families. We also send things to the Orphan Grain Train in Norfolk for shipment overseas. Getting it to Norfolk is dependent on individuals such as Pastor Reehl in our church who go to Norfolk from time to time.

4) Learn More about the Orphan Grain Train and its work to bring "Relief for Human Need Worldwide" at:

Tuition Assistance: The Mission Team is also continuing to seek funds for missions and outreach students at Trinity Lutheran School and Heartland Lutheran High School. There is a need to support mission and outreach students at both schools. The need is great and contributions allow us to share Christ with others including those outside our family of faith. Envelopes for contributions to both these projects are available at the church entryways. Please make any checks payable to Trinity Lutheran to assure funds get to the proper destination. If you have questions or want more information about either project, contact anyone on the Mission Team, Jon at the church office, or Pastor Reehl.

Members of our church have also assisted with English literacy classes, Vacation Bible School, audio tape ministry, child care center, and other outreach activities.

There are 3 “mission” students at Trinity Lutheran School. They are Hispanic and attend Christo Cordero Church in Grand Island. The need for tuition assistance is ongoing. If you would like to make a contribution to tuition assistance please contact the school office, Mrs. Armstrong, or Jon Heinrich at the church office.

Bosnian and Sudanese Refugee Families
We have had a number of Sudanese families that have worshiped at Trinity. From time to time special Sudanese worhsip services were held. Members of Trinity have reached out to these families through a variety of human care activities to assist them in adjusting to American life and to share the love of Jesus with them.

Quilt Making for Local Families and Overseas Missions

Women of Trinity have been collecting material scraps and making quilts for many years. These are given to the Grand Island Crisis Center or shipped overseas.
